Our Directors are Lungile John ‘Butityi’ Konki, Andries Johannes Koornhof and Kobus Potgieter, the MD.
Butityi Konki
Butityi holds a Graduate Certificate in Marketing Management (IMM) from Wits University, AMP Wits University and a BSc Chemistry degree obtained from the University of Fort Hare. He started out as a sales representative for Castrol Oil, soon moving on as Brand Manager and later Regional Sales Manager for toiletry giant, Gillette. Career highlights include being awarded the NAFCOC Up and Coming Entrepreneurs Award in 1993, which was presented by the then head of ANC Foreign Affairs, now ex-president of the Republic of South Africa, Thabo Mbeki. He is the Managing Director of Eaglesring (Pty) Ltd, is a shareholder in several other companies, and he holds directorship positions in a number of companies.
Johan Koornhof
Johan graduated from the University of Pretoria with a Masters degree in International Politics, and from the University of Oxford with a doctorate in Political and Economic Development. Starting as a consultant to major local and international corporations on investment opportunities in South Africa, Johan was involved in some of the very first Black Economic Empowerment initiatives emanating from the private sector during the 1980’s and consulted on BEE during his entire professional career. He has vast experience in the South African telecommunications industry, assisting in some of the largest foreign direct investments and privatisations on the African continent. Johan is the co-founder of two financial services companies, National Money Transfer and Pay@, based in Stellenbosch.
Kobus Potgieter
Kobus has been appointed as the MD of Codex Ratings as from 18 January 2010.
Kobus is a graduate of the University of Stellenbosch and obtained his B Comm degree in Business Economics in 1986. Afterwards he did his articles at Wiehahn Meyernel in Stellenbosch showing a keen interest in the world of business.
On completion of his articles, Kobus spent two years as general manager with Isa Carstens (Pty) Ltd. In 1991, Kobus and four other partners joined forces and founded an advertising agency - The 3-D Advertising Agency. He remained with the agency for 16 years and ran the agency as managing director for seven years. Although the agency changed names (3-D, Blueprint, Publicis and Herdbuoys), management remained with the original owners. Kobus was responsible for new business, client strategies, marketing plans and the overall running of the business. In 2007 he sold his shares to a BEE consortium and left the agency.
Since then he has been running a BEE Platform, doing business management, planning and structuring. He still owns his own media/publishing business to keep him in touch with modern trends. Kobus serves on various other boards and remains in love with the inner workings of business.
