OVERVIEW

Codex Ratings (Pty) Ltd was first accredited in 2006 to assess and verify the Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (B-BBEE) status of companies, although Codex commenced with scorecard verifications even before the promulgation of the B-BBEE Act in 2003. Codex also assists clients in understanding and interpreting the Codes.

Codex Ratings is fully accredited by the Independent Regulatory Board of Auditors (IRBA) and is rated on the highest level - a level 1 contributor.

The Amended B-BBEE Codes were promulgated on 11 October 2013. The objectives of the amendments are to specify:
  • the interpretative principles of B-BBEE
  • the application of the Codes and the basis for measurement under the Codes
  • the new thresholds for measured entities (“ME”)
  • the method for measuring Start-Up enterprises
  • the elements to be measured as well as the basis for determining compliance by MEs.
The Codes will be enacted from 1 May 2015.
